Why does Ashland Community and Technical College need to raise private dollars?
Ashland Community and Technical College is fortunate to receive steady support from the Sate of Kentucky; however, that support is dwindling in relation to the College's total operating budget. State funds now provide less than 45% of the operating budget, while student tuition continues to rise and now accounts for 13% of the budget. Moreover, current levels of funding are insufficient to keep pace with the challenges of student needs, workforce development, and technology, and traditional funding sources are not expected to grow in proportion to ACTC's enrollment.
In addition, ACTC is important to the community. Access to postsecondary education or training has become the threshold requirement for individual career success. With an educational institution in our community that trains technicians and provides the first two years to a four year degree, we can be assured that our employers have access to a well trained workforce, that our children can develop marketable skills right here at home, and that our citizens will become and remain productive and contributing members of society.
Why is Ashland Community and Technical College beginning a campaign now?
Through a strategic planning process, ACTC has identified needs that are beyond the scope of its current funding sources. A broad-based feasibility study involving community leaders was conducted, and the results indicated strong support for the College's leadership, programs, and services.
Based on this information, ACTC and the Community and Technical College Foundation of Ashland, Inc. are moving forward with the Fulfilling the Promise major gifts campaign for the benefit of the region.
What are the campaign's major areas of focus?
Based on identified needs and the advice of the community leaders surveyed during the feasibility study, the campaign will provide support for the following initiatives:
Science and Technology
Workplace Literacy
Child Development Center
Faculty Endowment
Is my campaign contribution to the Community and Technical College Foundation of Ashland, Inc. tax deductible?
Yes. The Community and Technical College Foundation of Ashland, Inc. is a nonprofit organization designed by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. A receipt will be furnished for each gift.
Are named giving opportunities available during the campaign?
Yes. Named giving opportunities are available, and a list of these has been placed in the "Named Giving" brochure. Please discuss your wishes in this area with Frank Salisbury, Campaign Manager, at 606-326-2092.
How can I make an investment in the campaign?
Gifts can be made in the form of cash, securities, personal property or other designated pledges. Donors should discuss investments with their tax consultants or financial advisors, as well as with Campaign officials, to determine the kind of donation that will best fit their personal circumstances and most benefit themselves and ACTC. An information brochure titled "Ways to Give" has been developed to assist you in making a decision concerning your gift.
Will the campaign accept multi-year commitments?
Pledges enable contributions to realize optimal tax savings and to make a more significant investment in ACTC than might be possible with a one-time donation. This campaign will continue for a five-year pledge period. All investments will be gratefully received and properly acknowledged.
Why should I give to ACTC?
ACTC is vital to our community because it provides a workforce to businesses and industries in the region and because it prepares local people for their roles as responsible citizens. Some of the region's largest employers report that a high percentage of their workforce is composed of former students or graduates of ACTC. Also, most families in the area have been touched in some way by the college. We want to ensure that ACTC continues to provide excellent and accessible education in northeast Kentucky.
In Summary
ACTC is a major contributor to economic and social development of the region, preparing students for the workforce and to further their education with a wide range of degree and certificate programs to meet workplace needs. ACTC's Fulfilling the Promise Campaign is an integral part of fulfilling the College's mission.
We believe that a college education is not just for the wealthy or for those who demonstrate past academic success. Rather, we believe that education and training for one of us benefits all of us. Those who can benefit and are willing to put forth the effort are welcomed and encouraged at ACTC.
