The Bank of Hindman has pledged $50,000 to Hazard Community & Technical College for scholarships for students from Knott County. Valerie Smith Bartley, president of the Bank, said education is very important and she's glad more students will be able to attend college. Mrs. Bartley is a member of the Hazard Independent College Foundation. The gift is part of the college's Fulfilling the Promise fund raising campaign, which has a goal of $4 million. HCTC President/CEO Dr. Jay K. Box said this is the largest the gift ever received at the College for scholarships in Knott County. "We're very fortunate that Mrs. Bartley is continuing her family tradition of supporting Hazard Community & Technical College through the Bank of Hindman and through her volunteer work," Dr. Box said.
