'Servant's Heart' scholarship fund begun in Riley's memory

Kentucky New Era

Hopkinsville Community College has established a scholarship endowment in honor of David L. Riley, the editorial page editor of the New Era who died of cancer on April 13.

David L. Riley The "Servant's Heart" Scholarship Endowment will honor Riley, who was a 1982 graduate of HCC and son of the late Dr. Thomas L. Riley, HCC's founding president.

Through an arrangement with U.S. Bank representative, Randy Newton, and the Riley Family, memorial funds received honoring Riley's memory will be held and perpetually invested by HCC.

The money will go toward scholarships for deserving students who enroll at HCC. The Riley family requested three selection criteria for the awards: potential for academic success, major in an academic program designed to transfer to a four year university and demonstrated capacity for community involvement and service.

Riley was active in a variety of civic causes and was known especially for his work on downtown revitalization.

Scholarship award recipients will be selected annually.

Additional investment gifts in the David L. Riley Memorial "Servant's Heart" Scholarship Endowment can be made at anytime to:
