HOPKINSVILLE, KY (July 28, 2004) - Jennie Stuart Medical Center has invested in the Fulfilling the Promise Major Gifts Campaign for Hopkinsville Community College. JSMC's $150,000 multi-year pledge will provide a valuable boost to the college's Allied Health Endowment. HCC utilizes earnings from the endowment to support on-going enhancements to its nationally-accredited nursing education program.

"JSMC and HCC have partnered for many years to increase the number of highly trained nurses in the local workforce," said Jennie Stuart Medical Center, President/CEO, Terry Peeples. "Having a nationally-accredited nursing education program in our community provides a direct benefit to our hospital and positively impacts the quality care we can provide to local citizens."
The college offers an associate in applied science degree (AAS) in registered nursing (which admits a maximum of 75 students each academic year), a diploma in practical nursing (which admits a maximum of 36 students annually), and a Medicaid nurse aid certificate.
"JSMC has been a tremendous partner with HCC for many years," said HCC President/CEO, Dr. Bonnie Rogers. "The local medical center financially supported HCC's nursing program during its early beginnings and through its national accreditation process. JSMC is now helping to secure the future of the program through an investment in the perpetual endowment that will continue to support nursing education at HCC well into the future and beyond."
Upon graduation from the ADN program, students may sit for the NCLEX-RNŽ national certification licensure examination for registered nurses (RNs). After completing the practical nursing program, students are prepared to take the NCLEX-PNŽ national certification licensure examination for practical nurses (PNs). The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is responsible for the development, delivery, and support of the NCLEX-RNŽ and NCLEX-PNŽ examinations. More information about the examinations is available online at www.nclex.com.
HCC's nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) as well as the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). For more information about HCC's Allied Health offerings, call (270) 886-3921, ext 6331.
HCC's Fulfilling the Promise Major Gifts Campaign centers on three primary initiatives: restricted endowments, unrestricted endowments, and seed funds for a proposed student services facility. Strategic investments are sought from individuals, corporations, and foundations that recognize the importance of HCC and are willing to support the college with private dollars to augment public funds.
