Donation Announcement (PDF)
HOPKINSVILLE, KY (December 9, 2004) - TVA Paradise Fossil Plant Manager Don Gaston
today presented Hopkinsville Community College with a donation of $5,000 to support faculty
professional development, specifically in the area of information technology.
HCC plans to use the donation to build on high-quality instruction, enhance classroom
productivity, and expand faculty capabilities.
"TVA's financial contribution will benefit local citizens seeking quality instruction and
opportunities to increase their workforce skills," said HCC President/CEO, Dr. Bonnie L. Rogers. "We
are moving in the direction of a true learning college. It is imperative that HCC faculty learn and use a
variety of instructional techniques. Ultimately, students benefit as they are exposed to new learning
methodologies."
Recently, the college installed numerous high-tech teacher stations in classrooms campus-wide.
According to Rogers, HCC faculty desire to be more actively engaged in the use of instructional
technology and consistently request more training on the new technology. The TVA funds will help the
college to address a need where there are limited resources available.
"If we are telling our students that they should become lifelong learners, then we as a college must
be willing to learn new things ourselves," added Rogers. "Oftentimes it is easier to obtain funds for
technology than to adequately support the training necessary to implement that technology. I commend
TVA for recognizing the importance of faculty professional development and how it positively impacts
instructional quality."
"TVA is glad to be able to support the local community and strengthen our partnership with
Hopkinsville Community College," said Gaston. "We are donating funds for the faculty training
necessary to expose students to the latest instructional technology and techniques."
