Jefferson Case for Support
INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

STUDENT ACCESS & SUCCESS
Smaller class sizes, flexible scheduling, and dedicated faculty and staff are hallmarks of the college experience which have attracted students to our campuses for over 40 years. Continuing to provide access to higher education and ensuring success for students as they transition into other institutions of higher education, or into productive and fulfilling careers, is foremost among our priorities. Student tuition has increased nearly 92% in the past four years, limiting access to some students. In addition, as the diversity of our students continues to increase, we must be prepared to meet the ever-changing needs of the population. Funding for this initiative will:
  • Increase the scholarship endowment
  • Provide financial assistance to meet both the direct and indirect cost of attending college
  • Generate new program development and expand current curriculum offerings
  • Develop and expand international and multicultural services

"I don't know where I would have been without the campus here...If I didn't get a scholarship, I wouldn't have been able to get into the LPN program and wouldn't have been able to come to college."

CRISTINA FERNANDEZ
CRISTINA FERNANDEZ, Jefferson Graduate, Downtown Campus
"Jefferson has given me the education I need to become competitive in an ever-increasingly competitive world."

ALLIED HEALTH INITIATIVE
Area healthcare providers are facing both immediate and future shortages of trained medical support personnel that potentially could threaten healthcare services for our community. In addition, technological advancements are driving the need for flexibility and rapid response in establishing new programming in emerging healthcare fields. Funds for this initiative would be used to enhance training, expand existing programs, establish new programs, and improve equipment and facilities as identified:
  • Construct and equip an Allied Health facility with state-of-the art classrooms, laboratories and technology to provide much-needed space to accommodate new and emerging programs
  • Renovate and update existing classrooms and laboratories to meet current workforce training needs
  • Expand existing programs and provide accelerated and flexible offerings, such as evening and weekend programming, in high-demand areas
  • Develop new programs in emerging technologies to keep pace with community needs in areas such as biotechnology, nuclear medicine, etc.
  • Create an endowment to provide for on-going enhancements to keep pace with changing trends in workforce needs of the healthcare industry
STEPHEN A. WILLIAMS
STEPHEN A. WILLIAMS, President and CEO, Norton Healthcare
"With access to fewer public funds, colleges like Jefferson are depending on business and industry to step up to the plate to ensure that students are able to receive state-of-the-art training. We simply can't take it for granted any more. Today's training programs are costly. Technology is costly. The best way business and industry can help ensure that tomorrow's graduates are the employees we want to hire, is to get involved with the colleges and support them."

NEW ECONOMY AND TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE
With the explosion of technological advancements affecting every segment of the workforce, employers require highly skilled employees experienced on the latest equipment and technological innovations. Remaining current can be challenging; therefore, funds will be used to prepare and train a workforce ready for today's high-tech workplace as follows:
  • Construct and equip an industrial and technology center that will become a premier provider for rapid-response, technologybased training in this region
  • Expand and enhance distance learning capabilities to broaden access to higher education
  • Infuse classrooms, laboratories and libraries with the newest learning technologies
  • Create an endowment for perpetual upgrades necessary to sustain a technological edge in the college's data infrastructure, both in instructional and operational areas

"The need for technology in the classrooms is very important. Nowadays, any position you have, whether you are a CEO of a major company or a clerk at the local grocery store, you are going to have to know how to use technology--whether its simply checking someone out or providing financial reports."

Cisco Systems, Inc.
"Cisco has a real appreciation for the importance of an educated mind. It's not only that we want sharp people but we also want people who have been adequately trained and are current in the tools and techniques of our industry."

UNRESTRICTED ENDOWMENT
Creating an unrestricted endowment will establish a permanently invested, recurring source of revenue that will sustain the college during times of economic pressure and provide the latitude to respond to new and unexpected opportunities and challenges for which traditional funds are not available. This endowment will help guarantee the long-term financial health of the college and its ability to rapidly respond to the community's ever-increasing educational and workforce development needs.
