SUCCESS IN PARTNERSHIPS... OWENSBORO MERCY HEALTH SYSTEM

Greg Carlson
GREG CARLSON, CEO
Owensboro Mercy Health System
"The hospital is in the business of providing health care services to the community. For us to be able to do that effectively, we need to have the most competent, the best educated, and the most skilled people. For a number of years, we've had a tremendous partnership with Owensboro Community and Technical College in the sense that many of our employees take advantage of our tuition reimbursement program and utilize the classes, the education, and the training offered at the College. As a health care organization, we feel that one of the keys to our success is education. Education is the foundation upon which we build everything else. Derek Bok, the former president of Harvard University said, 'If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.'"

We invite you to invest in the future and assist us in creating a learning community through your gift.

"Most people don't understand that the College is not a state-supported institution; it is a state-assisted institution. We do not get all of our funds from the state of Kentucky. Approximately 58% of our annual budget must be raised through tuition, grants, and private donations. If we want the College to be the best that it can be, then it is essential that the community contribute to the success of the College. When I watch our graduates walk across the ceremony stage and hear their families in the audience clapping, little sisters and brothers yelling, I realize that many of these students are the first in their families to attend college. Seventy-five percent of those people, and probably more, would not have gone to college if it weren't for the availability of OCTC, and that is priceless."
