Owensboro Case for Support
OUR COMMUNITY'S COLLEGE TODAY

Owensboro Community and Technical College has over 350 full and part-time faculty and staff who provide 40 Associate Degree, Diploma, and Certificate programs on three college campus locations. Successful consolidation, strategic planning, and high standards of excellence have facilitated a 64% increase in college enrollment during the past 4 years.

OUR MISSION REFLECTS OUR VISION
OCTC improves the quality of life for citizens by providing: Associate of Arts and Science Degrees that offer transfer credit to baccalaureate institutions; Associate of Applied Science Degrees, Certificates, and Diplomas in technical and professional programs; and customized workforce training for business and industry. OCTC also creates a bridge for those transitioning from high school to postsecondary education through programs such as: Discover College, Adult Education, the SkillTrain Center, and community education.

OUR VISION REFLECTS OUR VALUES
  • Increase the college-going rate in our region because we all want to live in a learning-centered community.
  • Provide a well-trained workforce essential to a better quality of life and a healthy economy.
  • Continuously strive for quality in all that we do because "quality is a race that has no finish line."

ACHIEVING OUR VISION REQUIRES OVERCOMING BARRIERS
  • 36% of adults in our region have less than a high school diploma or GED, an unacceptable barrier.
  • The collegegoing rate, for many in our region, is in the lower 25% of the state rate.
  • Income levels, for many in our service area, are 54% to 63% of the U.S. average.
  • State support of our College is less than 42% of the cost of providing education.

"Owensboro Community and Technical College is an institution that is by the community, for the community, and of the community. I say to members of our community that not only do they have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people who attend this institution; but by supporting it, they have an opportunity to affirm a model of an organization that is focused on the mission of not letting anyone be left behind."
