Meet George Henderson, an OCTC graduate living and working in Owensboro. "I attended
Owensboro Community and Technical College because a friend recommended it to me. I visited
the campus and talked with staff, counselors, and professors; and I felt like I could gain a
quality education. I didn't know that scholarships were available. I was a nontraditional
student. I was coming out of the workforce, caught in a layoff, and did not have a job. I thought
the best thing for me to do was to go back and complete my education.
I had some funds from work and checked on scholarships and found out that I qualified.
I was overjoyed that the cost was reasonable, something I could afford, because I still had
to maintain my home and family while attending school. My scholarship gave me peace of
mind. I knew that I didn't have to worry about finances and that, if I did well, money would
be available to help me buy books and pay for tuition. Knowing scholarship assistance was
available helped me relax and concentrate on what's important as far as earning my degree.

GEORGE HENDERSON, OCTC Alumni,
Computer Programmer, UniFirst Corporation
"I completed two Associate Degrees in Accounting and Business, with a minor in Computer Science. I was able to transfer to another college
where I earned my four-year degree in Computer Science. Now, I am a Computer Programmer with a good paying job and I love what I do. I
still visit the College, but now I teach an evening class for OCTC instead of take one. This allows me to give something back to the College and
our community."

BILLY JOE MILES, President
Miles Enterprises
"As a former Chairman of the UK Board of Trustees and a former Board Member of Owensboro
Community and Technical College, I've attended many graduation ceremonies. When you shake the
hands of students coming across a graduation stage, you feel calluses on many of their hands because
they have worked their way through college. Education supports economic development, selfesteem, and
it creates a pride that is contagious. If educational success is contagious, then Owensboro Community
and Technical College is clearly at an epidemic stage; and, supporting this endowment will help support
many deserving students."
