The low educational attainment of Kentucky citizens statewide compared to the
nation as a whole is well documented. The educational attainment of the
Kentucky counties served by Somerset Community College indicates the
challenges facing us.
Addressing Local Needs - Somerset Community College serves students in
a large, primarily rural geographic area. SCC has full service campuses in
Somerset and London and educational centers in McCreary, Russell, and Clinton
Counties which also serve the contiguous counties of Adair, Casey, Cumberland,
Jackson, Knox, Lincoln, Rockcastle, Wayne, and Whitley Counties. SCC's total
service area covers a population of over 475,000.
Whether coming directly out of high school or from the current workforce,
students of all ages and backgrounds find a means to achieve their dreams of a
successful career, a higher paying job, and a more fulfilling life. For some, SCC is an accessible, affordable stepping-stone to
a bachelor's degree. For others, SCC offers the best hope of getting the education and training they need to meet their
employer's expectations.

RICHARD E. COOPER, Chairman of the Board, Citizens National Bank
Honorary Campaign Chair, SCC Fulfilling the Promise Campaign
"The College has been the most important thing to come here in the
history of our county ... it behooves all of us to liberally support the
College in all of its endeavors."
The Fulfilling the Promise Campaign for Somerset Community College addresses state and
local challenges and emphasizes projects that support SCC's core mission:
Somerset Community College, located in south-central Kentucky, is a comprehensive
community and technical college with a mission to provide quality, affordable, and accessible
educational and training opportunities that address the needs of its district. The College offers
students educational experiences and associated services through traditional campus-based and distance learning modalities
that promote intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning and encourage aesthetic awareness and social responsibility.

SHARON WHITEHEAD, English Professor
Somerset Community College
"It is most rewarding to watch my students gain self-assurance and
confidence over the time they spend at Somerset Community College.
Many students wonder if they can do college work and what they find is
that through the effective academic guidance and instruction they receive
here, and through their own hard work, they leave well prepared for
university life or the immediate job market."
