Farmers Deposit Bank of Liberty and Middleburg has pledged $50,000 to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign at Somerset Community College. The money will be used for the new SCC Casey Center over the next five years.

The $10,000 donated each year is designated for Academic Excellence at the SCC Casey Center. Wednesday, Dec. 20, Farmers Deposit Bank President Steve Owens and Farmers Deposit Bank Executive Vice-President Jonathan Wilkerson presented a check for $10,000 to SCC President and CEO Dr. Jo Marshall during a ceremony at the bank.

"Farmers Deposit Bank is pleased to be a part of Somerset Community College's new Casey Center and is excited about the higher education opportunities the new center will provide to the residents of Casey and surrounding counties," Owens said.

The Farmers Deposit Bank is Casey County's oldest continually-operated business. The bank has served Casey County for more than 102 years.

Marshall accepted the pledge and a check for $10,000, representing the first year's installment on the pledge, on behalf of the students who will be attending the SCC Casey Center.

"This pledge from Farmer's Deposit Bank will enable SCC to make sure we provide academic excellence to students attending the new Casey Center," Marshall said.

"We very much appreciate the commitment Farmers Deposit Bank has made to the College and to the people of Casey County."

Steve Merrick, President of Somerset Wood Products, and Charlene Harris, President of First National Bank of Russell Springs, are the General Campaign Chairs. To date the SCC Fulfilling the Promise Campaign has receiver more than $3.1 million in gifts and pledges. The College recently set the overall campaign goal at $4 million.
