Southeast Kentucky Case for Support
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dr. Ayers Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College has been educating the citizens of mountainous eastern Kentucky for over 40 years, initially from its main campus in Cumberland and more recently from communities around our region, including Harlan, Middlesboro, Pineville and Whitesburg. We are committed to "access with excellence," the bedrock that supports and sustains everything that we do.

From a very simple vision shared by a group of community leaders in the late 1950s who believed that higher education was vital to the progress of southeastern Kentucky, to our recent accomplishment of consolidation with Cumberland Valley Technical College, Southeast is without doubt Fulfilling the Promise of those who have gone before us.

Now, as a proud member of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), the College continues to remain true to a mission of providing area residents with opportunities for a better life through programs and services that meet their special needs.

However, today the College faces the challenge of shrinking public funding for the programs and services that we must offer now and in the future in order for southeastern Kentuckians to enjoy a standard of living that meets or exceeds the national average and to have successful businesses and industries that are globally competitive in an information- and technology-based economy. We need your help. We need investments and partnerships from and with individuals, businesses, and foundations in order to continue the tradition of excellence that we started in higher education in southeastern Kentucky in 1960. Please join me. Together we can ensure that Fulfilling the Promise is not just a slogan, but a commitment -- to our region and to its people.

W. Bruce Ayers, Ed.D., President
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College
