STUDENT ACCESS/SUCCESS $1,125,000
Student Scholarships $250,000 Endowment
Student scholarships will provide Southeast with the resources to assist needy and deserving students on each of its five campuses. Many of those
served by Southeast come from "needy" families. And, while most students may qualify for financial aid, there are often incidental expenses that are
difficult to meet. Sometimes students need access to small loans for books, transportation, health care, and clothing. And, since a significant number
of students are parents, many of their expenses may be "child-related."
Student Leadership Workshops $125,000 Endowment
Eastern Kentucky suffers from a dearth of leadership. Many of the
leaders that have emerged are overwhelmed with the multiple roles
they are asked to assume. Southeast has developed leadership
academies that serve the public at large. This program will be
directed toward promising student leaders by allowing them to
engage in service to the college and at the same time develop their
leadership skills.
Southeast Scholars Program $250,000 Endowment
This innovative program targets sixth graders in Bell, Harlan, and Letcher counties who show academic promise, but who will probably never attend
college unless someone intervenes to help them. This program will provide that intervention. While in elementary and high school, the scholars will
be mentored and provided with targeted workshops, summer programs, and field trips. When each of them graduates from high school, he or she will
be guaranteed admission to Southeast Community College with the College providing their tuition and books for free.

"I guess I should be retiring, but I'm starting a
brand new future. I've fulfilled a dream that has
always been my desire--to receive my education,
and I'm going to do it with Southeast!"
EXPLORE College Fund $500,000 Endowment
Eastern Kentucky has one of the lowest "collegegoing" rates in the nation. Fewer than 55 percent of students go on to college after high school
graduation. Together with the public schools and area technology centers in Bell, Harlan and Letcher counties, Southeast has launched EXPLORE
College, a collaborative effort that is intended to give students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school. While some of the course
work can be offered without charging tuition, much of it cannot. This fund will allow Southeast to pay tuition for students who are enrolled in "dualenrollment"
programs and allow them to receive college credit. Funds will also be used to help in the coordination of work being done at area
technology centers in Bell, Harlan, Letcher, and Knox counties.
EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY FUND $1,000,000 Endowment
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College is one of the state's and the nation's most technologically advanced institutions. However, given the nature of its
programs, keeping up with technology is almost cost-prohibitive. Consider the expense of maintaining health/science programs, like nursing,
radiography, medical laboratory technology, surgical technology, respiratory care, medical assisting and phlebotomy; or the cost of maintaining
laboratories in industrial technology, including machine tool technology, diesel mechanics, automotive technology, and heavy equipment operations;
or the need for specialized, everchanging equipment in network and information systems technology, computeraided drafting and design, and
surveying and mapping technology.
UNRESTRICTED ENDOWMENT $500,000 Endowment
Southeast must begin to build a permanently invested source of unrestricted support in order to respond to the new and unexpected opportunities
and challenges for which traditional funds may not be available. All great institutions of higher education rely on the flow of annual income from
unrestricted endowment to meet the ever-increasing demands for innovation, creativity, and rapid response.
