Civic Organization Makes a Large Contribution to a College

A local civic organization makes a large contribution to an eastern Kentucky college.
More students will have a chance to receive a college education thanks to the Harlan Rotary Club's donation of more than $30,000 to the Fulfilling the Promise Campaign at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.
"The Harlan Rotary Club has been involved with Southeast for 17 years. We've been providing scholarships to Southeast so this was just a way to solidify that agreement and to help the school out with their fulfilling the promise rather than just continually giving the scholarship every year," Kellie Wilson, Harlan Rotary President.
Rotary Club leaders say their $33,000 contribution to Southeast Kentucky Community Technical College over the next five years is the rotary clubs way of investing in the regions future.
College officials say they are hoping other civic clubs will join in and help give the area's people who are wanting a brighter future a chance at a college education.
"I would encourage all of our civic organizations to get involved to put our students into higher education because it's just one of those things you never lose on. the community doesn't lose, the students don't lose, and the club don't lose!"
A portion of the rotary club's contribution will go toward building an outdoor stage at the Harlan Campus to host bluegrass concert events and possibly a yearly bluegrass festival in the future.
