Anna KeithMy name is Anna Keith. I am a nineteen-year-old single mother of two. I have been participating in the Work and Learn Program at Somerset Community College since February, 2006. I had just started receiving KTAP (Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program) benefits; and after receiving my GED, I was referred by my Department for Community Based Services Case Manager to Sara Brown, the Work and Learn Case Manager at Somerset Community College. Through Sara's guidance, I began to realize that there were great opportunities for me. I had completed my GED but needed to improve on some basic academic skills. I started the Work and Learn Program and Sara placed me in a job, through work-study, at ERA Hometown Reality where I am now an Administrative Assistant. I am now considering being a real estate agent and plan to enroll in Somerset Community College, majoring in business management. I am learning a great deal through my work-study experience, which I have found is the best way to learn. I have already learned many job skills that I will use in the future and continue to learn more every day. I would highly recommend this program to other KTAP recipients. This is a wonderful program that can offer you many career choices. Hopefully, through my success, others will consider this program and also be successful.Read other Ready-to-Work Student Stories |
