Kentucky Community and Technical College System
Community and Economic Development : KEC The WorkKeys® System
The WorkKeys® system is a three-step process that consists of:

1. Profiling the specific occupational requirements
2. Assessing the applicants level of skills compared to those required by the job
3. Bridging the Skills Gap through remediation/training (increasing a persons skill levels to meet those of the desired occupation)

"Good people get good results. Great people get great results. What we're very proud of is that we've been able to take individuals that have started at entry-level positions and through the WorkKeys partnership with the Owensboro Community College, they have been able to enhance their skills and move up with the organization."

Greg Carlson
CEO, Owensboro Mercy Health System
The WorkKeys® assessments are based on objective criteria that are gathered through a standardized job profiling process. The job profiling process ensures that the skills that employees are obtaining/learning are truly relevant to the work that they are/will be performing on the actual job. These job analyses are performed by certified ACT profilers, using a standardized process to maintain the same high standards across profiles.

In order to bridge the skill gaps that an applicant might have, training is available through traditional classroom based instruction as well as computer based training that allows an individual to proceed at their own pace. Once an individual raises their skill levels to an appropriate point, they can then take and qualify for the Employability Certificate.

There are three types of Kentucky Employability Certificate available.
1. Gold Level
2. Silver Level
3. KCTCS Occupational Specific
